110 Dash removal

Help! A two part question:
Has anybody successfully removed the dash on a 110 (85 County) without breaking bits in the process.
Does anyone have a schematic of the dash components that maybe has a procedure for removal.
I am attempting to remove the lower dash section to access the flasher unit and so far it is like breaking in to Fort Knox and I am finding pieces broken by previous attempts to repair whatever faults that occurred. I have tried to remove sections in what seems to be a logical sequence but I think logic went out the window when the dash was designed or am I just a thick!

Maggsie,

I've got an '86 County and had massive dash issues too! I pulled the whole thing to bits and went crazy over the vacuum operated vents, so I feel your pain. The best advice I can give is to take a long term view - I had a number of attempts where I tried to knock it over in a couple of hours, then finally I devoted an entire weekend to sorting it out. Sorry I dont have a schematic, but I do remember needing an impact driver to get the lower half screws undone.

Steps I took:

1. Take instrument panel off, including disconnecting all elec leads
2. Take facia off (rest of front panel), including losing screws inside vents!
3. Take top section off
4. Release top of lower half, then pull back far enough to access what I needed. I didnt take the whole thing off.
5. Put it all back together and grow back hair which was pulled out during steps 1-4.

Good luck, you've got the best Landrover ever built. Counties ROCK!

Kels,
thanks for the reply, fortunately my cousin who is a very competent auto sparkie found the flasher unit behind the fuse panel. (Note for anyone looking for it) It was covered in years of dust so I probably would never have found it until I had stripped the whole car. Your correct about the vacuum units, the passenger foot vent on mine is cactus plus showing a bit of corrosion around the square vent hole in the bulkhead. It doesn't look like it will be a five minute job given my close association with Mr Murphy!

Thanks for the clue.
I have a '88 County and my passenger side air vent sometimes requires a little gentle persuasion to get it to engage properly. I was considering taking a look this weekend, but after reading this, I think I will go 4wding instead.

Are the vent systems in the County different to that in my 93 Defender ?

Oh and as for broken dash bits - my instrument binnacle (I suppose thats what you call it) is held in place with cable ties.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
