    Thanks, those are good tips. They do recommend that you don't crank the engine to get oil pressure, so I had the pump full of Vaseline and I made up a priming tool out of an old dizzy and that did the trick. If working long evenings out there as well as a small child's experiments in parental sleep deprivation hadn't resulted me in forgetting to check the ignition leads, then it would have started right away.

    But I really regretted mucking about with all the other new parts like the gauges. Good known parts are always better for this sort of a thing.

    I think a lot of engine break-in tips are based on someone putting it on a dyno, where everything is all set up. Doing it on your own like this can be a real headache.

    I raised pressure in my 3.9 by making a tool from a steel bar that fitted in my drill and running the drill for a few minutes. You can tell you have pressure when the load on the drill increases.
