3,5 V8: oil pressure

Can enybody tell me, what is the minimum, but correct, oil pressure for this engine (3,5 V8, 8,13 c.r.) ?

Hi Adam
Try Penrite oils, its oil pressure in a 5lt container!!!
The HPR50 is probably too heavy in the 3.5 in winter, but would probably be OK in summer.Try either the HPR30 or HPR40.
They are good oils for reducing oil consumption, especially the HPR50.I delayed a rebuild in a falcon 12 months by using the HPR50,was using 4 to 5 lts of GTX a week, used about the same amount of HPR50 a month!!!!

Thank U
My V8 doesn't burn or loose any oil - not at all, I don't need to refill between replacements
Summer I used Shell Older Engines 25W60 and pressure was acceptable.
Now I have 20W50 and idle, hot, I am affraid...
Probably oil pump will need some attention.

Hi Adam
I dont really like to be the bringer of bad tidings, but usually oilpumps in most engines are very reliable.Oil pressure loss at operating temp is usually internal pressure losses in the bearings/lifters etc.
I have read in the pommy mags that the 3.5 is suseptible to clogging of oil galleys ets with sludge which eventually leads to camshaft failure due to lack of lube. This is a result of not changing the oil often enough, this may have happened before your ownership. It might be worth having a look inside the rocker covers,if there is a lot of sludge it could be worth doing an internal cleanout whilst the motor is still healthy.

Truly, I expect some bad news about valvetrain, but...engine is powerful, no oil consumption at all, good compression, no problems to start when cold (sometimes harder when hot), no bad noises (only low clicking coming from 1 lifter, probably blocked). And I am going to modify my plant (especially valvetrain), that's why I was still waiting with detailed examining...
On the ither hand, if I am right, those V8 are known to keep really low oil pressure idle (10-15 psi), I am not sure.

Thank U Andy and...my personal opinion is: its better to know bad knews earlier than later...

Hi Adam
The 302 I put in "The Toy" has almost 0psi oil pressure at idle when hot!!!!,and noisy lifters, fords loose oil pressure thru wornout lifters, perhaps the rover V8 is similar in this regard.

Have you checked the sender and gauge. I like to try a mech gauge on this sort of thing. I once built a modified 3.8 jag engine for a bloke and he kept complaining about it over heating, when I checked it the gauge said it was 110 deg but I could stick my finger in the rad water and didn't get burnt. It turned out to be a faulty voltage regulator on the dash board. The car was running at 75 deg all the time.

"fords loose oil pressure thru wornout lifters, perhaps the rover V8 is similar in this regard" - this is very interesting Andy ! - I will check this path...
