    Are these stretch bolt?

    Hi all just by looking can you tell if there stretch bolts

    1993 Discovery 1 3.5l
    2" Lift, Cranked HD Trailing Arms
    31" Maxxis Mudders
    Tons of Radios, Tons of Spotties

    the step up under the head on the shank is the giveaway.

    Thanks Dave, thought so, whats the rule of thumb here, some threads say they can be used up to 5 times some say change every time, I dont mind buying new ones if I have to but if I can re use I will, just a bit confusing the information you read.

    v8s and tdis are good for 5 uses, i only install them up to three so you have two goes left in an emergancy.

    No 3.5 ever came out with stretch bolts. They were introduced around 1994 with the 10-bolt heads on serpentine 3.9 engines. Those bolts should have six radial lines on the head to indicate tensile strength. The stretch bolts are a washer head design and the thread is waay longer. Torque your bolts down to around 65-70 ft-lbs and they'll be fine.

    Ok these are separate washer bolts but you already knew that lolol.. umm the engine has been apart before but not sure when and even if these were changed out for new, ok ill clean them up and reuse them when time comes, both the head and the mains as well

    Also this strange looking bolt was on the head, whats it for

    Front head bolt (by no.1 cyl) for the power steering bracket to bolt to.
