Price for age sounds really good,but from what you have described its in fairly poor condition for its age.
You would be better off looking for one that hasnt been on a salt fix for half of its life.Pay a bit more and hopefully get much less of a headache.

Well Andrew has a good option, could shop around for something in better condition of similar age. However good ones are fairly well guarded, want a few more dollars at sale time however you could still end up down a mine shaft if you buy the wrong one. The last 110 round here was not under 10grand, not a mark on the paint and had well over the 350's on the clock with the diesel sounding like a series of slide hammers pounding away. I've seen a series 2 in dunger condition (unreg, tired engine, bald narrow wheels) and the guy wanted 3 grand. Probably wouldn't have given more than three hundred.
Quite often you can build a killer of machine if you set about it from scratch for a lot less than buying a vehicle for the price you have in mind. Sure you could buy this county for the 5400 but remember I have a new landy for the same money just a little earlier in model. Worst case, you could buy the county and spend that much again on bringing it back up to good condition or have a run of costly bad luck.
If you're serious about a landy then there's plenty around, series models that is. I've got a series 2A project underway if you want it. Quite a few roll through Ebay under "other vehicles" usually sell in the low hundreds which if you think about it, cheap purchase equals more to spend on tarting up.

Much as i'd love a 110 (and that price is good), but in the condition you are talking about, and that price, you could find a series vehicle (probably with a holden motor) in perfect condition.
Go the landy, but i'd suggest finding a better one, and if you want more comfort and the V8, have a look at an early rangie.
The upshot is:
There is good value to be had in Series Landies for the price you are talking.
A County will be more expensive and these are having quite a resurgence in popularity (causing the price spike) but a Landie which is a headache is one heck of a headache - there are many people here that can attest to that.
On the other hand a sweet, sweet Landie is as good as it gets.
My advice (for what it's worth) is to hang onto the MQ for now and save money. Then buy a County or Defender in better condition that you can get out and enjoy rather than have to wheel under the house and work on straight away. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

If it is the 110 Im thinking of. The vehicle was keept in a car port
facing east straight accross from the Pacific Ocean.........
Would get with salt spray most days.
I think he has replaced the 110 with a GU patrol.
On Sunday I sold my 110 v8 ute($4500) it had a bit of rust in rear cross
member the size of a 5c piece & thats it.
As a 110 County owner I must agree with VladTepes,

I got a great vehicle which my whole family enjoys, it has a good motor and immaculate body with HD springs, radios etc and very low Km's, [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img] but I paid a fair and reasonable price for it.
It sounds like alot of work in getting the vehicle you are looking at into good working condition and one must wonder what else has been affected by the salt water spray. In Vic, any panels that require repairing due to rust, must be 'brought back to original strength' before they will pass a roadworthy.
Consider looking at other options before going much further. That amount of cash will get you a really good series Landy that will let you get out and enjoy what Landy's do best!

I found when looking for a 110 that the 88-90 models seemed to be more prone to rust in the fire walls than the earlier 110's.
For that price there is also an 85 county with a 308 in it in the sydney area that has 12 months rego.

My mates in the UK were big on landy's so I had an idea where to look for rust it just happened to be showing like the bulldogs winkers, set alarms ringing fairly early
Looks like the MQ for now until I've got the cash to get something decent, I'll re-phrase that got the cash for a landy
I will post when I get a Landy but might be a few years yet, so many other toys to spend money on!
