    Transfer Case leaking

    Hi
what is more likely going to leak oil down the transfer case on a D2a the diff lock leaver arm or what I think is the lay shaft.
leak is not major but annoying as it leaks onto the exhaust giving a burning oil smell
    thanks

typically the oil leak at the forwards side of the LT230 is the lay shaft or the front bearing housing.

Since you have to drop the box to fix the shaft properly (and generally I advise getting a swapover casing with the stainless insert along with a new layshaft which is AKA the intermediate gear shaft) Youd be a nutter not to reseal the whole thing while it was down.

On average IME the shaft makes it to about 150-200K Km before it starts to leak and depending on usage the output seals make between 25 and 100K Km

you have to drop the oil to change the seals I also suggest dropping the access plate off of the bottom for a bit of eyeballery and cleaning out any junk thats accumulated.
