I have had 1/8" rubber fuel line on my 300TDi for over 4 years now, cost less than $2, no clamps, has not gone hard or brittle has never leaked a drop, if you pumped out 70 litres in 30klms you have more than a problem with leaking fuel return hoses, how did you not notice 70 litres of fuel spraying around under the bonnet, bloody amazing, Regards Frank.Quote:

And my aquarium line lasted several hundreds of kms without showing any sign of leaking!:D

I have no idea what the hose was that I got but it was a side of the road fix at a shopping center to get a vehicle home (its since become a semi regular customer) when it came to me for its next service the hose had gone rigid and fractured when I bumped it getting the rocker cover off.
I tried it once and it failed I put it into the "works but emergancy fix only" basket.
Can you get me the brand name from the spool your line came off of?

Just came back from Repco, Gates pn. 27000 1/8" / 3.2mm fuel line is a nice snug fit over the barbs and no way its coming loose - $11.50/m.
The mower stuff was probably a Tygon hose.
Impervious to most all petro chemicals.
I've always used braided Mercedes spill hose from a diesel shop.
Been lucky enough to get quite a few feet for nicks in the past and it lasts for years
ISnt there a difference between the whole "tube" and "hose" thing? The spill line is that hard nylon stuff is it not? then it is tube and its OD is the same as "hose" ID for same series???

co-incedentally the list is roughly in order of pressure rating from highest to lowest
generally when specifying the size of any of the above you are specifying the nominal internal diameter of the item. Its the OD that can change wildly depending on the construction and rating. where the sizing gets interesting is when you switch between metric and imperial 6mm hose is also 1/4 inch but not really and it usually relies on the compressability and stretchability of hose under a clamp or over a barb to get away with it at the relatively low pressures that we're dealing with in the LP side of the fuel system, vac system and the cooling system.
Tube is also the name used for some special fittings like a pitot tube or emulsion tube....
Then the americans come along and decide that they want to call it whatever the hell they want to call it so the terms tube and hose can be interchanged depedning on which culture your talking to. The only thing that they seem to agree on is that a Pipe cant be a hose but some of them will call a tube a pipe....
