Actually someone did a mod. to have both springs, coils and leaf. Reckons it works as well........ don't remember that much about it..... I'll dig out the mag if anyones interested.

To do that you would be removing most of the leaves and using them as axle locators, but the axle wrap would be a beauty. So then you need wrap bars, then you are 3/4 of the way to a full coil setup.
Hi Guys
Murray Peterson, who is on Blackstump from time to time has a really well set up Ser3 shorty,he has coils with a leaf to locate the axle. There were pictures on "The Stump" so a search of that site may locate them.

My brother looked at parabolics for his 2A Station wagon, the guys at Britparts in Perth strongly advised against fitting them as the vehicle is too heavy, especially when loaded up.

Went looking after I last posted and found the mag. 4x4 Australia Oct 91. Doesn't give too much away as to what this guy's done, looks pretty soft suspension and uses coils to suppliment the light leaves with single acting shockies. From the photos can't see anything added appart from the brackets for the coils. Glenn Linnane of Outback Engineering was the person who did the mod.
Though any suspension work like that is engineer cert. required isn't it ?
Might have a look at the site Andrew suggests out of interest.
I have removed 2 springs each side at rear and placed 1mm steel washers between rest 7 springs, gave them some gear oil too.
Landy is bit lower (not much) because I didn't reset them, but ride is a lot more pleasure, both on/off road. Back really started to absorb and I no longer hear my backbone discs...
No any problems with handling, I guess its better, especially off road.
Soon will start with front, but I didn't decide yet what exactly will do.
What about idea to stick with modified semieliptics at rear and replace front with parabs ?
adam
semi eliptics have totally different ride characterisics compared to parabolics.
they behave totally different going into and coming out off a rut.
if you havent ridden in a vehicle with parabolics then you need to as you cannot get a sense of what they offer with out going there BUT
parabolics under v8 landies are a 50/50 bet, some like them some dont.
parabolics on the back are fine if you get the right number of leaves to suit what you are going to carry in the back.
parabolics under my swb make it ride better than a loaded 109 as rocket will attest.
the biggest difference is in the way it comes out of a hole, it is immensly better than standard semi eliptics, and it doesnt skip...
Well, sure I'd like to put 4 parabs. But this is 50-60% of money I gave for truck...I am decided to do it anyway, but later (all we hope to have better future, don't we ?). Is V8 engine so much heavier than 2.25 or 2.5 or 2.6 that some people complain about parabs under V8 ?
adam
settle down sport..
i was just trying to get the point across that they are worth the extra money as they make the truck that much better/comfortable... but that some v8 people didnt like em...
Sorry, mentioned above 1mm steel washers are 6cm long (wide like spring) and placed above mountain plate of course.
