clutch/gearbox noise

as u might now know from my questions my car is a well kept example which i got from a gramps who had it from new. its a late 1993 la 3.9 disco first reged in 1994, one of the last la's. it's only done 14000k's, but the clutch has a chatter in it, loud in reverse when you ride the clutch, not as loud in first , but still there. its not there when the clutch is released fully. if u ride the clutch just right with low revs u can make it not make the noise. its not a squick or rush bearing sound but a definite chatter, so i dont think its oil on the plates.
we pulled out the out put gear from the transfer case to check the splines and they where like new, so we drilled 4 8mm lube wholes in it.
any ideas , the spiggat , or a uni joint maybe?
also will these oil wholes prevent the splines ****ing themselves, or do you need a splash ring?
cheers

Noise probably thrust just "tinging" on pressure plate fingers. I doubt its a problem at all.
I always overfill transfer by about 1/3 l to ensure oil gets splashed around. I also doubt holes will be a prob unless corners sharp.ie, stress risers.

have u heard the noise before?
we filed any bured over bits after drilling the wholes, i know the wholes wont cause a problem, but does the extra oil getting to the shaft via the wholes reduce it wearing, and solve the problem :?:
how do you get the extra 1/3 oil in the transfer case :?:

The description depicts a throw out bearing. Sound would be unmistakable rumble like a worn bearing with no lube.
