The rattling can be resolved/reduced by sticking the pad onto the piston with silicone (don't use Sikkaflex or you'll never get it off).
Standard drum handbrakes can be contaminated with oil leaking from the output shaft and have been known not to hold either.
The X-Eng kit has an (almost excessively) large caliper with good pad contact on the rotor, other brands have smaller calipers with less rotor contact.
I would not bother, alot of money for not much gain

Yes, I had one. it let go whilst I had a tandem, stock crate and 2 steers's in it on the back

Till this day I've not seen a dented handbrake drum
What exactly do you guys mean by "let go"? Did it break or just slip? The stock ones slip all of the time....
Slip to the point of the vehicle rolling away! And not on real steep terrain.
