rover 3.9 rebuild inc tophat Melbourne

    hi guys

ive teared down 3.9 rover v8. Ive taken the pistons out they look great. the bores have little wear on them however are pitted here and there. I will need a rebore or T-hats installed. What is difference in cost between just rebore and having top hats installed? it probably wouldn't be wise reusing pistons after top hat install( these pistons look really great-sureally unwise to reuse?
? Could someone recommend melbourne machine shop which does rover v8 work inc top hat liners?

    Regards matt, thankyou in advance

While I can't help you with your question, I would recommend that you think about fitting high compression pistons while you have the engine stripped down.

I agree with Scouse re going HC pistons but if you do not want to do this and your old pistons are fine then there is no reason to change them just because you have gone to top hat liners - the bore of the two type of liners are the same. Definitely go new rings in both cases.

If you go to 9.35:1 pistons will it still run on 91 RON fuel??

The problem with high comp pistons ive got a supercharger- i got it with engine, thing is i think its optimum to run low comp with it. I wouldnt mind a stroker crank if the crank was stuffed but crank looks good. Options are endless. I will be running lpg atm only... so higher compression looks enticing but not sure with supercharger. Truth is i really need to talk to rover engine rebuilder. not looking for high gains but if replacing parts wouldnt mind replacing with better parts for more gains. I will be replacing cam, timming chain and sprockets thats for sure inc arp studs holding mains with girdle if i can get my hands on one.. . I'm thinking torque cam for low rpm with super charger helping to make gains mid range.....or something like that
Ive found a doncastor mob ill give them a call tomorrow if someone cannot recommend anyone else? is there anyone in bayswater area?

orgers in bayswater did my 4.6 build, custom crow cam grind for low down grunt, adjustable timing chain advanced 3 degree cam timing gives me 400nm at about 2100rpm with 32 inch tyres on the dyno.

definatly get it top hated, if you go high comp forget the super charger and premium fuel only BUT it will be much better on LPG.

Orgers are the best in the buisness but not cheap.

Orgers did my 4.6 build too. Very professional. They have done literally scores of rover V8's.

    But not cheap.

I ran a high comp (9.35) 3.9 with a turbo in a SD1 and had no problems at all with detonation. It was also running straight LPG. Just make sure your ignition side of things is top notch. Ditch the rover distributor and get one from performance ignition in Nunawading. Best thing I did for the turbo set up. Power gains were noticeable! I was running 9psi through a gas research throttle body. Good luck with it all. Have you got any pics of your install?

    Cheers
