    Battery tester?

Some time ago I was in a difficult situation when I went back to my vehicle and found that the main battery was flat. I was in an isolated location.

I want to buy an instrument which will tells me the state of the batteries, how much charge they’re holding, whether they’re still in good condition.
What should I buy? Could anyone please suggest a specific make/model? I want a quality instrument, one made in Korea/Japan/Spain/Italy/Germany/Holland etc. (not a piece of rubbish that I can’t rely on).

Do you want one that is in the car on the dash or something? Or do you want a battery capacity tester that you connect when you want to test it?

12V Battery Tester FOR Various Batteries | eBay

    something like that.

Ive got one thats similar but due to vagracies in it I routinely check my batteries on the micro XL at work then do a comparison test on my personal unit

Most battery worlds have the same tester I use at work

My tester will tell you the battery is dead a little earlier than it is as will a lot of the small units if you are using a battery near the top end of their rating.

A hydrometer is a very good tool to tell you if you battery has a dead cell, providing the you have an unsealed battery, that is why I have unsealed serviceable batteries

It is also washed out after use

I realise that a tester like that gives a lot more useful information than a simple volt meter but what about a basic device such as this one?

Does the voltage reading it gives offer any warning of imminent failure or does it really only tell that your battery has just died?
