Disco TDi manual "clunk"

Quick question for the specialists out there..
Test drove a tdi Disco 96 mod with 180 k on the clock today.
Noticed a minor clunk just after engaging the clutch na dchanging from 2nd to 3rd after climbing a big hill today.
As if a universal had play or something...
Also slightly observed the noise when going from reverse to 1st while parking...
Ever so slight but checking its nothing major..
Thanks

hi

rear a frame ball joint would be first suspect, transfer case second suspect.

general slop in the drive train, maybe a worn uni or two seeing it is at 180k

Best way to diagnose problems is to keep driving it until

a) noises are loud enough to warrant something being done
something breaks showing you the problem
c) something falls off because that part was only in the way anyhow
d) it gives you the irrits if the above done happen first.
