Aircon de-gassing

The ARC is a total waste of space IMHO, they really have done nothing to protect our industry..... years ago when it first started up I was at a course for licencing and contested some of what they were saying to the point of walking out in disgust..... the response from the course instructor was
" Geez sorry mate, didn't realise there was any real fridgies here tonight, we were only concerned with Auto Mechs", the Dept of Enviroment and Heritage informed us it was mandatory to attend if we wanted a licence.


Have had a few run ins along the way with regard to Auto AC work, my trade papers clearly state Auto AC is included in my qualifications but the dickheads at the ARC say I can't have one as I am not in the Auto industry.

Kev, I'm told that there are NO fridgies on the board of ARC. But there are 2 sparkies.

The interesting thing is that 2 of the inspectors were teachers at TAFE years ago when Yeronga was operating (late 70's), they both keep saying they understand my frustration but I am welcome to apply for an amended licence for an additional fee, I keep responding with what part of "Open Licence" don't they understand

It's all about the biggest lobbying power and unfortunately the Electrical Contractors Ascociation is (and rightly so) a very powerful organisation, our industry became so fractured there was no cohesive effort to mandate our own industry and now the horse has bolted so we have to keep voicing our opinions..... at times it's like belting your head against a brick wall but I for one believe the industry needs better regulation, in some ways tighter but overall regulation that befits the industry proper

Yes, I agree we need better regulation of the trade. Possibly starting with legally enforcible minimum allowances for works. ;)

Agreed we have needed much better regulation for years,can't see it ever happening,the plumbing and electrical mobs have it all over us.:(

And ARC has not really helped at all,another mob of toothless tigers.

I just had my County system de-gassed for $120 on-site. He thanked me for doing the right thing, however noted there was basically no gas in the system at all. haha. I guess that explains why it wasn't getting cold! :D

Unless it's working well, I would have put money on it being empty myself.

I wouldn't worry about licenses and all that caper for bloody DIY tinkers. Gee's you'd think everyone was playing with dynamyte, next we'll need bloody electricians to change a light bulb (hey that is actually dangerous.... if your stupid enough to stick your fingers up into the light fitting and touch the live bits).

If auto A/C is dangerous, then the US and UK must have thousands of deaths and injuries from it.... 'Cos refrigerant is available to every man and his dog over there .... you can even buy it on ebay and have the little tins delivered to you.

Sure they may never actually manage to get there A/C working trying to recharge with those little tins when they have no idea what there doing ... .But you don't hear of poeple hurting themselves.

Bloody deadly stuff that refrigerant....
