Cool Hey Fella's. I need Help Suspension Wise

Hi guys. I been doing plenty of searches but havn't found what I'm looking for yet.
Years ago I owned a Range Rover that had a beautiful ride. From memory it had Gas Shocks on it? Forget the brand but you could jump a gutter and not feel it, it was that good.

I now own a Discovery 1 with a 2" lift using Dobinsons Springs and am looking for Shocks that will give me a nice soft ride. Everything I'm looking at are tough, double tough or, super tough!
I'm after comfort mainly but shocks that won't fall to pieces when I go off road.
Does anyone know some info that'll help?? Thanks in advance.

Give British Off Road a call, I think they have soft ride Terra Firmas to suit the D1.

Get rid of the lifted springs and go back to normal soft springs. Nearly all lifted springs I've seen are hard and horrible compared to factory springs. You kinda answered your own question. I'm guessing the Rangie had its original springs??

Did the Rangie have air bags? You can add them into your D1 if you choose.

You would have to relocate the front shocks, and weld new mounts for them.
Front Air Bags won't just "add" to the front of a D1.

I have recently fitted Dobinsons Standard Front springs to my D1 300TDI and a set of Repco Max Trak Nitro, gas shockers, and I'm very happy, lifted the D1 up about 2 inches (50mm) they will settle after a few months and give a better ride,an now thinking of Dobinsons for the rear, but will fit new rear Max Trax first,as the rear shocks are getting poor. I got my Dobinsons from Repco C51016 set @ $195 and the shocks @ $108 ea I got mine at a slightly better price as I have a trade account.

    PM me for further info

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

To answer a few of the questions. The Rangie "probably" had OEM springs although I don't think the Dobinsons are too hard. I had a Chinese set of adjustable springs on the car a few years back that gave a nice ride however, as soon as I hit the NT and WA they literally snapped in two. The compant replaced the Chinese ones with ??? shocks which are still on the car but they are pretty stiff. More like driving in a Pathfinder or Hilux 4x4 than a Land Rover.

I DID go to British Offroad today and they slowly convinced me to try the Terra Firma's. The price was pretty good too so, I relented. I'll fit them over the next few days.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice. It's really frustrating trolling through the forums of the net reading everyone's conflicting opinions and experiences trying to frame an accurate picture.

    cheers

Could you have been thinking of the Boge Hydromat self levelling suspension that RRCs had? It meant very soft rear springs and hence plush ride, but maintained a good load carrying capacity without bum sag.
