Thread: Seized engine or starter motor given up?

Brilliant - unscrewer the plugs, number 5 was covered in the caramel of oil and water, but when cranked, water did not spurt out. It also seems not to have affected the rest of the engine as yet as the rest of the oil looks fine. Would this be a piston ring?

Managed to turn the engine over manually and break the hydraulic lock as when I replaced the plugs and cranked on the battery - everything was fine - EXCEPT that it just would not start.

Managed to make it start by injecting petrol from a squeezy bottle just after the carby, but it fails to run.

Fuel pump is ticking and fine, plenty fo fuel in tank, but a strange knocking noise from the tank that was not there before - almost as though there is a round rock sliding around in there.

Safe to assume blocked fuel line OR blockage in the tank from something that has fallen off inside? Fuel cap is always locked so no chance of foul play.

I am telling her that it is NOT a money pit, but 3 'issues' after 3 runs is starting to wear a little thin!

How much fuel is in the tank??

Could be that there is a problem with the fuel pickup. It's easy enough to look into the tank, just take the ful guage sender under the drivers side seat off and have a look.

Poured in around 20 litres.

I have Honda seats which makes inspection a problem, but will be looking at it this evening.

Would that explain the clunking in the tank?

there isn't a lot in there to clunk. Either there is a problem with the fuel pickup, or the float from the sender has come loose or off. Is the fuel gauge working??

Sounds like a float type of noise.

The gauge registered some petrol, still nothing coming through to the carby - would the float have affected that?

Is it an Alloy Eight???
They are a tad dear to rebuild after a water leak....
You might get a 2nd hand one or convert to Deisel or similar?

Thinking of switching to Holden power - gasp.

If there is nothing coming through the carby, i'd be checking the fuel pump, fuel lines and the tank pickpup.

the float would not affect the fuel takeup, so it might be the fuel pickup that is causing the problem (not reaching the petrol).
