If you are driving a series there is provision for a sedimenter filter next to the standard CAV filter on the bulkhead. This was for diesel as the petrol just used the glass bowl next to the pump.
The CAV filters are easily available and cheap, and you can get the marine version with the glass base to see the water in fuel. At a pinch you can even wash the filters and use again.
The only downside of the CAV filters are the small plastic drain plugs at the base which I think are a bit weak, and sometimes the square sealing rings are not included with the filter in a box.
