    300tdi - vibration

    Hi

    300tdi with 168000k on it

idles beautifully at 750 rpm not so nicely with the air on

at about 2000 rpm it gets a vibration up and seems to run eractically, certainly not smoothly

puts a vibration thru the whole cab/vehicle

under heavy load it seems worse

    seems better at 3000 rpm

it still has plenty of sting in it and it has done over 740klms on this tank of juice and it isnt into the red yet.

    any informed clue out there?

When was the last time you had the cambelt changed
Sounds to me like the cambelt tensioner pulley, or if you are lucky it may be the fan belt tensioner pulley
But on second thoughts that would not make it shake though the whole truck
Does it do all this sat on the drive or only when driven

Also have a look at the crank pully .

I was going to say the front tail shaft but then you say it does it sitting in the drive.

    bad vibrations 8O

Mine has one at about 2200 rpm but only when the weather is warm. It still remains a mystery to me and I can only put it down to the motor having to work a little harder: air less dense therefore less oxygen for the combustion process exaggerating an imbalance somewhere.

I checked the crankshaft pully/harmonic balancer to see if there was any play and found none but as hook suggests its worth a "captain cook".

how badly does it vibrate ?

does it make the interior rear view mirror vibrate enough to ghost the view?

trying to put a quantitive scale to the vibration .....
