    Battery charging

Just designing a battery maintenance system in my head, for vehicle storage.
A merit socket and a small ctek seem the go. But, if you have dual battery, ie factory and optima, with different characteristics, does this cause problems for the 'smart' ctek ?

Hi Andy and depending on whether the socket is a dedicated connection to the cranking battery, just connect the charger to the cranking battery and both batteries should be first charged and then maintained.

Ctek charger’s “Smarts” relates to different types of cycles but as these do not go higher than 14.4v in normal mode, you can charge any and all types of batteries at the same time.

    Battery charging

I use a charger similar to a C-Tek on my P38A which has dual batteries coupled by a Traxide SC40.

Attaching the charger to the main battery only charges that battery (I assume) unless the SC40 has switched to put the batteries in parallel, e.g., by starting the car and checking the light on the SC40 is on continuously and not flashing.

EDIT: Silly me, once the main battery is charged the SC40 switches and the charger continues with both batteries. Doh'

I'm much the same. I use a C-Tek MXS10 while my Rangie is not in use. It charges both batteries via a Traxide SC80.

    Cheers
