Just in the process of removing TD5 EGR valve. Noticed a lot of oily soot in the manifold/plenum, tempted to pull it off and flush but a little worried that I might knock some of it into the cylinder. Is it worth the risk to clean it out or better to leave it be?
EGR is pretty coked up so be glad to be rid of that!

Yep, clean it out as you will not hurt it at all given that crud is already there in the intake head section as well and moves like an ice glacier towards the cylinders.
And easy as to do once and then its done.
