try using compressed air.
On previous trips in the outback I've been into "up the windows and aircon on" mode.
In the Defender, we took a different approach. We just opened the front vents and cruised along. A bit of extra noise, but lots of cooling air. The advantages? Easy to shut the vents, and you don't move from one temperature to another when you exit the vehicle. And, once the door is open the bushflies are in; with windows open they're out the car in two minutes after you move off, with the windows up they're in there for a while. Plus motoring along with the vents open and windows down just seems more "with" the environment.
The dust sealing question is more around door seals. I've looked at the rubber seals and there are indeed little holes, so I'll try BigBugga's idea.
Following on from BB's suggestion the other material to try is the black rubber tube used to wedge flyscreen in to the frames of screen doors and windows.

The best way to keep the dust out if you own a Defender is to trade it in on a Landcrusier!!
Seriously I have tried so many things trying to keep it out with limited success.
Once you get it all kinda sorted, another problem with leakage will kick in. I have learnt to live with the dust, gives it character!
To clean the vehicle out I use:
1. HP Air for sand
2. Garden Hose for dirt/dust etc
I relplaced the lower door seals with a type that was used on the Defenders earlier than 2000. Can email some photos if you are real keen. They work great at keeping the bulk of the dust and water out.
Regards
Phil
Phil, pix would be great, thanks. I'm not going to eliminate dust. But I do want to minimise it, and what with the tips on this thread I feel confident of reducing it. Dust is simply part and parcel of outback travel, and that's fine, but it doesn't mean it can't be minimised.Quote:

Trade it for a Landcruiser? No thank you! They'd have dust ingress too if the windows were open.
It might be slightly harder to get dust into a Cruiser but once in, it's a damn sight harder to get out :!:
I've never had a 4x4 yet that has been immune to dust ingress. It's always a matter of how much and what you do to limit the ingess.
Driving slow (not always an option) or windows up seems to be the best.
I allow plenty of time when out and about, so take plenty of stops for walks/coffee ect.
Now that is *very* true. I had the Defender looking very tidy with little effort after the desert run. The Pajero took much more work.Quote:
