    Windscreen wiper fault

Got in the ute 4 am, cold morning, to go to work. Activated wipers to clean the 'opaque' screen, or at least I tried.

    Nothing.

Used a towel and got to the servo.

Fuses all ok. Removed and reinserted. Still not working.

Oh well, worry about it later, back on the road.

    Tried again, wipers working.

Tried again a bit later, not working.

Haven't worked since - fuses NOT blown. :?

    Any ideas :?: :?: :?:
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

check the micro switches in the motor geardrive housing.
if its not returning to rest position it wont activate switch to start next
    wipe cycle.

They still use the brush type motors for the wipers ?? Maybe it needs a new set of brushes.

Next time they decide not to work bump the wiper motor and see if that makes them work. Might give you a starting point anyway.

Doesn't need a bash.... just a bump. Bash gives thoughts of you're trying to injure it usually with something big, heavy and after a good windup swing.

Doesn't need to be much of a gap for low current to not flow. So maybe poke an insulated screwdriver (proper electrician one or normal one with bit of fuel hose over it to stop unneccessary sparks) up there (through an air vent?), rest it on the motor casing and bump the end of the screwdriver with your hand would be enough if the brushes were stuck.

Same for when your electric starter motor brushes or solenoid get stuck.... little bit of a bump with the screwdriver is usually enough to get contact again. Sure is easier than the other method of trying to short the solenoid, though you also see people using hammers as persuasion for their reluctant solenoid as well.

That was the preferred method for the father-in-laws patrol.

    TYhanks for the tips.
Replaced the fuse (again) and the wipers are working OK (again) now, so its all a bit of a mystery :?

Ahh well, if it ain't broke....
