He has no idea! There is no water being controlled by flaps.
I suspect the D2 heater is like the P38A in that hot water flows all the time and the flaps control the airflow to mix the cool air from the air con and the warm air from the heater to adjust the air temp.
I'll go and read the workshop manual.
What was wrong with the auto box? Any chance it was only the XYZ switch that was faulty? The auto boxes are pretty reliable.

flaps? to let fluid through? I want some of that stufff hes on:o Make my day pass nicer!:D seriously, the heater in a D2 is a continous flow type, there is coolant passing through all the time, no cut off taps. The "flaps" direct AIR flow or "blend" depending on the selection via the HVAC center, heater, aircon, etc. No coolant direction! As previous it will be condensate and dislodged drains.

Do not let the mechanic fit any tubes. He doesn't know what he is doing.
Here's a cross-sectional view of the heater. You can see the flaps only control air flow.

In the images below, you can see the coolant pipes (9) go straight to the heater core (10) and not through any taps or flaps.
