Are you sure it's coolant?
Is it green (or red)?
Or is it clear and condensate from the air conditioning? If the latter, it's likely they have dislodged the air con drain tubes.

I just had my auto gearbox replaced in my Discovery TD5, 2001. A day after picking it up water has started to run into the drivers side footwell, I've been told this is from water building up in the system, which should run out but is not! A quick fix being to by pass the heater with some tubing but in doing so the heater will not work anywhere. Anyway, does anyone know if this could have been caused by anything to do with changing the gearbox over? Cheers

						Thanks.
It's clear and the consistency of water so guessing it's coming from the air con. My guess is they don't want to pull it apart again so looking for a quick fix?
I've not worked on a D2 in that area so I can't help much. However, I suspect there is a drain through the floor from under the dash much like this one on my P38A. (One each side of the transmission hump)

Was told the air con will still work but the heater won't after they re-route the tubing.
I guess we'll see if it still leaks with the air con on?
That doesn't make sense. If it is condensate, why disconnect the heater? Also, a heater is required to pass rego inspection (in this State) if it was fitted to the car at time of manufacture.
Is it a Land Rover specialist doing the work (don't name the workshop)?
When I go into the local LR workshop tomorrow, I'll ask.

Just so I know, and thanks for your time in answering.
Why does it not make sense?
Cheers....
It sound like they will be rerouting the heater hoses to stop coolant going through the heater. But if the water is clear, it can't be coolant that's leaking.
If it is condensate, then there should be a catch tray below the air con unit with drains out under the car. I understand the condensate drips out and down onto the auto transmission XYZ switch and causes that to fail thus causing the transmission to not change correctly (a new switch is often required).
We need a D2 owner with some experience to chime in.

I agree with Ron, it is not the heater thats the problem, It will be the aircon drains dislodged from the bottom of the heater/aircon unit . If it was the heater the footwell would fill a lot quicker than that! And yes a working heater demister is required for RWC.
The drains are at the outer edges of the trans tunnel, if you take a torch and look in front of and around the center console you should see them. Not an easy job to push them back on though, ten joints and 6 inch pencil like fingers wil help!
Cheers Scott

Mechanic says the heater has flaps in it that open and close to let fluid through. Apparently the flaps have stopped working and the fluid has built up and leaked into the footwell?
Not a Land Rover specialist.
