Diff Locks

Just wanting to get people's views on why you would not go with a maxi-drive set-up for both front and rear?

I have noticed that some people have gone for Maxi-drive rear lockers and an ARB locker in the front.

I am pretty much sold on getting the maxi-drive lockers in the rear (when I save up!), but not too sure about the front.

Thanks

Noddy

Good question. I imagine it might be for the compressor?

one is vaccuum operated (maxi)
the other is pressure operated(arb)

which is the better or more reliable unit?

its better to get the stronger or more reliable unit rather than just buy
a diff locker cos it has a compressor.

all i know is maxi comes with stronger axles which will be more use than
a air compressor.

i would be interested to hear from experience the good and bad points
for both lockers.

I run ARB lockers front and rear with Maxi drive Half shafts
Main reason for this is price (i am in UK)
Here an ARB unit (not fitted) is A$1500 EACH with A$437 for the compressor. That makes them the cheaspest form . Where as Maxi Drive are alot more expensive
For end caps and Maxi Drive Half shafts will cost A$1250 per axel
So in total to have the two ARBs and front and rear maxi Drive stuff has cost me A$5937
But this is still cheaper than the Maxi Drive units.
But Maxi Drive is expensive as it is imported by the french then sold to a company here and then sold on. But a good reason not to buy their stuff is that the french import it

I have a ARB locker in the rear of my 91RR but when I did that I also upgraded the axles to maxi 24 spline ones. Doing it that way it was slightly cheaper including the compressor than going completely Maxi.

My delemiar is what to do with the front end. Im not certain if I want it locked or not. Im thinking I will put in the Maxi carrier with the 6 gears and shafts. If I want to lock it later I can buying the remaining parts.

After that its just a case of the CV's apparently my 91 has the "small" CV joints. Im told I can fit the larger CV's from earlier models but they are spose to be around $1000 each side for genuine LR, Ouch!!.

Don't forget Jack McNamara. He makes quality products - they rival Maxi.

Jack Mac are superior in design to ARB from what i have read.

You may want to investigate his whole setup incl axles/flanges etc.
