Spare wheel mount on bonnet of TD5

    Hi guys

want to carry an extra spare, normally on roof rack and would like to mount one on the bonnett. I have been advise this is not possible on the TD5 but have seen photos on the net that would sugget this is not the case. has any got a spare on the bonnett on a TD5, if so how do you acheive this.

    any help would be appreciated

Correct. It's not possible as the bonnets are not what they used to be.
However it's not impossible. Not long ago I saw a late model Fender with a spare on the bonnet. Only down side was that the shape of the bonnet was rearranged a tad. In fact it was fairly well buggered as a result.

    Cheers

The bonnett for to take a tyre is alot more renforced than the standard. You can just try and get a second hand bonnett which is designed to take the tyre. As all the bonnetts on the 110/90's are the same . So it will fit

Careful though even 2nd hand bonnets are as expensive as all Hades so don't fall over if and when you ask.

If you can get one from a wreckers with the wheel kit already in place it will be a lot cheaper than buying the two seperately.

Today I read on LRM's website that there is a genunie LR kit for TD5 bonnets.

I have a friend who custom-builds things (like my spade/axe carrier) so am going to speak to him about it.

In fact, if he made a decent TD5 spare wheel/tyre carrier for the bonnet, anyone else interested? Let me know. I'm sure it can be done somehow.

im interested too...its a better spot to carry the weight of a wheel than on the roof when off road.

but on a budget i need to know how much$ first.

also what was the price of a second hand bonnet? also the bonnets with a wheel carrier have a different support rod than the later bonnets without wheel carrier.

some one must have priced one to they are expensive......or is that just standard if it says land rover?

Last time I asked British Off Road:

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>We have a good used bonnet in stock $750.00incl gst.
We also have a new bonnet in stock $1150.00incl gst.[/b][/quote]

And that's a Tdi bonnet, not a TD5 one (which given there are fewer around at wreckers probably means they are more expensive) 8O
