My recently acquired Discovery 2 came with an uninstalled Autosafe Cargo Barrier.
I'm trying to install it today but I'm having problems with where to connect the lower part of the barrier. The fittings supplies seem to line up nicely with the tie down rings in the back but what/how are they suppose fit and work?
The attached photo shows the fittings and bolts I have (same for both sides of the barrier).
Install the cargo barrier at your own peril if you are considering driving anywhere dusty, ie outback Australia. The D2 rear door mechanism is notorious for becoming stuck with the ingress of dust.
However you end up installing the cargo barrier it's a VERY good idea to ensure that it can be removed from the cabin area without the use of tools that would normally stored in the cargo area.
I kid you not.
Deanoh has a very good point! Cargo barriers offer added protection in a roll over as well as stopping stuff coming forward, but yes,if the rear door can`t be opened in the middle of nowhere, you have your water etc stored in there along with most other essentials.
last resort is breaking the rear window (ouch)!
Much better to have tools in front of said barrier that will allow removal or loosening of it to gain access.Better to leave access to bottom anchor points to allow this.
Trev.
So a no3 Phillips and a 15mm spanner will get to the top bolts easily and because of the lower points pivoting. Just fold the rear seats forward and pull the cage forward and get over the top of it.
Ive been carrying a length of square aluminium with a hook on the end of it for this same situation.
it is long enough to poke through the cargo barrier and grab hold of the inside door handle on the rear door. As long as I am careful how I pack the rear, so as to leave some room to get access to the rear door.
It has for me out of trouble on a couple of occasions, as well as having to remove the cargo barrier from the rear seat.
From memory, if you have a Milford cargo barrier and roll your car, they will give you a free replacement.
