Backspace is the measurement from the mounting surface to the back of the rim, which in your case is 3"

Offset is the measurement from the centre line of the rim to the mounting surface. Which in your case is -50mm.

If your rim was only 8" wide with the same backspace (3") the offset would be less (-25mm).

So can I ask the experts I'm getting rims....but I dont know what offset to get

I currently run original disco alloys and my tyres rub on the radius arms so I just want the tyres to move out a touch! but not enough that they come out of the guards

what would I be looking at please dont get all technical on me just give it to me in dumb dumb language!

Mine are 0mm offset with 265/75 r16 tyres on my defender and they just stick out the guards a fraction but they don't rub on anything. Mine is a defender though, your talking about your disco right?

I'm not sure what your standard offset is. I think the defender is -25mm standard though don't quote me, therefore I have effectively moved my rims 25mm outboard.

I hope that wasn't too technical

But I have been looking at procomp rims and they have a 12mm offest so worried they are going to stick out the guards which is what I dont want

Sorry Lou I made a mistake, I think standard the defender offset is +25mm which means the mounting face of the hub is 25mm towards the outside from centre.

Therefore a 12 mm offset would move your rims 13mm further out. That is if they have the same standard offset as the defender, and assuming my memory is correct in regards to the actual standard offset.

I hope i haven't confused you. Basically a 12 mm offset would be half what I have, and at a guess should be ok.

I don't think thats correct.

3" backspace on a 10" rim will be about -65mm offset because offset measurements are taken from the outside of the bead seating area, where backspace is taken from the outside of the rim. Rims are about 1" wider than the marked bead width. ie an 8" rim is about 9" wide.

0mm offset rims are for Patrols
-25mm offset rims are for Landcruisers

But they use the same rim and machine these for other vehicles which is why you can get LandRovers or whatever in -25mm offsets.
