Yes, pto's can be run on current defenders, Maxi drive make both a chain drive pto for shaft driven pto winchs and a direct hydralic pump pto for hydralic applications, custom stuff can be made to order. i don't know how you would go about the shaft speeds, but if anyone would know Mal would, also go over to the Outerlimits4x4 site and look for "daddylonglegs" hey is very tech and has built his on 6x6 among other things.

Don't know about the newer PTO's but the older ones weren't that strong.
Must work though.
Has the 'look' anyway.

There's only one company that I know worth talking to for the 6x6...Bob James at 6x6Australia near Lismore.
I bought them in to make the Nissan 8x8 for HRH Sheikh Hamad of the UAE.
What Bob doesn't know about the 6x6 isn't worth knowing...he's your man for a quote to convert your 110 into a 6x6.
They will quote using their own design or for the lesser efficient system used by Foleys etc....

The marketplace alert on the fire service in Tasmania selling a 1981 leaf sprung Land Rover 6X6 has been moved to the correct forum.
Streaky in regard to Aussie6X6 what is their comparison with the SMC system or the similar one on the Mercedes G-Wagen or even the different again perentie 6X6 system (Both of which are different to the foley and 6X6 oz)?
This is the 6x6 oz system

The Mercedes G-Wagen system

This is the Foley system

The third axle drive comes out of the PTO hole of the LT95 but is driven by different gears to the normal LT95 PTO.
Dont get them confused.

Wow, a 2013 reply to a 2004 thread...
Why would anyone want to convert a Defender when you can buy a well thought out package with more elbow room straight from the auctions right now?

The thread was resurrected by a marketplace alert which was moved to the correct location, leaving streaky's post hanging out in space seemingly irrelevant.

I'm no expert when it comes to these things mate but I know the Oz6x6 bogie system provides heaps more articulation that any other out there.
Bob also uses a drive-thru housing now that's much stronger and more reliable that the transfer case shown in the pictures.
This year we saw the introduction of the 6x6 G-Wagon which by all accounts is a rocket ship in straight lines and desert tracks.....what they don't tell you is that it's full time 6 wheel drive is a potential death trap on corners since it has a tendency to want to go straight on! It's articulation is the worst I've seen on a 6x6 ever!
Again....I just quoting what I've been told and not from personal experience.

Sound's like the G Wagen power divider isn't unlocking, although any bogy axle system whether driven or not has a tendency for straight line travel. Just look at a tandem axle trailer when you want to turn it around.
Do you think the limited axle articulation on the G-Wagen is the anti-roll bars?
The different 6X6 systems of interest to me as I re-assemble my Renolds-Boughton 6x6 Defender "Ikea", currently we're merging a Maxi-Drive locking diff into the middle axle.
