So whilst mucking around in the shed trying to set up the vacuum control for the vnt turbo, when the vanes are fully closed or open its seems fine, but have the vanes about half way and it sounds like someone is in there throwing a ball bearing around intermittently.
So I stripped the Turbo down today, and all appeared OK, re assembled it and it is still doing it.
Any ideas anyone?
Turbo is a garret gt2260 vent on an Isuzu 4bd1.

Don't think so, everything is pretty tight, no play in the shaft.
My first thought was vane hitting the impeller or something but no sign of that. It sporadic but always happens. If I can I'll email you a video dougal.
Will tie the vanes in the closed position for now, it worked fine on matts 120.

Does boost bounce around when it's happening?

No, its not under load, just idling. Boost gauge just flickers, it did the same (no boost) with mike_ie's when we set his vnt up, only showed boost when driving.

It takes a tiny turbine to produce boost idling. I can get my T25 to give about 8psi if I rev it like I'm trying to blow it up.
