County Cousin John (I'm trying to get him connected) has suffered similar problems. I'll pass this on. Apparently there are 2 filters. On of them is in the tank. The Tank filter deals with the "gravel" and the second deals with the "sand". The first was clogged.
You may need to get into the filter in the tank.

it may also work in reverse and cause the needle and seat to stay open
causing it to flood the engine.
this will cause it to run rough, blow black smoke and then stall.
either way the fuel pressure guage will tell.....

They used to be down the bottom of Latrobe tce
One of my mates got his 88 110 sorted out there once, apperently they are good with SU's

Got one in the blown E type. We fill it with a Holly blue pump and then feed the engine with 2 x Bosch injection pumps, also feed the injection spill return into this tank. This car probably gets more fuel surge than an LR and going lean costs heaps of money with this engine.

 Thanks for all the replies
I pulled the carbies down on the weekend and while all looked fine, there was not very mush movement in the floats, so I have adjusted them slightly.
I have replaced the fuel filter again, just in case.
Went for a drive and while we got further up the steep incline, it faltered towards the top.
At least it was better.
I suppose the next stop is the tank and internal fuel pump and lines as suggested.
If this fails I will take it to Rally Motors as Lewy110 suggests. Someone else also suggested them. Said they were expensive, but very good. I don't mind paying good money for good service.

 Saintmud,
Did you ever manage to sort this problem out? I have a similar issue with my 86 3.5 v8 county. When adjusting the float level in the carbies, which way did you bend the metal tab so that the floats let more fuel into the chamber? I have pulled my carbies apart and they are sitting upside down (i.e. with the floats facing upwards) and I am not sure which way to adjust the metal tab (i.e. up or down) to try and get more fuel into the chamber. Hope you can help. Thanks.
Ross
