I found these pics a while back. I like the look of these recovery points.
I sent an email to the guy who posted the pics. He said they were custom made for his Discovery by ARB in Perth. Can get more made.

did they have to cut the chasis?
and was that "angle" rewelded across the new bit?
Hi Glen, i have found the TJM bar very good, the mountings appear strong enough, and it is winch compatible. I think it is six of one half a dozen of the other when it comes to these two brands both are good quality well know brands. Go with the one that you like the look of best, i dont think it really matters. If the bar wasnt on the car when i bought it i probably would have gone the ARB, but for no particular reasonQuote:

Thanks Matt, I'm leaning towards the TJM simply because it is winch compatible but not one or the other like ARB.
Those are exactly like the outback products item in 4wd monthly, they seem to be a perfect fit for the job, but I think they are on a D2 by the looks of it :?:

BTW has anyone seen the stuff produced by outback products, they are making stuff(10,000lb rated points) for the new playdo and others, they may be able to produce something to suit, that is if they dont already. I only just saw them in the new products section of this months 4wd Monthly

The TJM instructions (I fitted my bar myself) simply said to straighten the LR point. This did not work for me: 1) it was Bloody difficult to do (took a LOT of hammering) and 2) the loop was up behind the skirt of the Bull Bar, meaning any strap/winch cable would be prone to damage.
So, I had a pair of new ones made. I have some pictures that compare new and old, but I'm new to this forum and can't find how to upload them.
I was not 100% with them (still seems likely that damage could occur to the skirt of the Bull Bar), so I only fitted one and will try a re-design one day.

I have a mag with New Design in them, I'll scan it and Post the pic.
Thanks for the thougth, but my understanding it that JATE rings are NOT rated sufficiently to handle recovery loads.Quote:

If your LR has a winch mounted in a bullbar,,
if that winch is rated to 9000lbs,,
if said bar is from a reputable manufacturer,,
why not use the cable as the recovery point :?:
the bar must be mounted in such a way as to withstand 9000lbs of weight/force. True--yes?no?
How many times does a strap multiply the recovery force?

2000 was a bad year for LR (and 4wds generally) , out of FIFTY FOUR vehicles washed out, towed out and rolled over by the sea LR contributed 10.

Jate Rings were designed to Airlift Military Land Rovers. They are also much easier to fit cause they replace the transit rings which bolts through a reinforced part on the chassis .. available on any coil sprung LR. If being rated is a concern do yourself a favour and have a look at a 4.2 Ton D-Shackle and compare that to a Jate Ring (see below). Realistically the D-Shackle will only give way under massive loads ... 15T plus. My Jate Rings looks stronger than the D-Shackle so I'm confident they will do the job.
Another benefit if two jate rings are fitted, is that you can use a bridle to spread the load in the front. The bridle also eliminates the problem of access by fitting and attaching to the bullbar before a heavy section is entered.
