Needing some assistance on tyre size and legal limits

So disco1 95 vic rego wanting to keep it legal.
Currently I have 16inch rims and the tyres are 265/75/16.
From what I understand about tyre sizing (which isn't much) that gives me a 32" tyre, which I believe is as big as I can go legally before we are talking body lifts, castor correction for steering, suspension lifts and engineering reports.

Once suspension and body is lifted I believe with an engineers report I can go up to 35" whatever that works out as in metric tyre measurements.
I think for what I want to do with it the 32" will be capable though down the track I definitly want the 2"suspension lift but needing to organise bullbar winch and other bits and pieces before suspension is done. Also seriously considering the 2"body lift also but that is straight away an engineers report anyway.

    G'day mate,

If you google VSI or go to the Vic Roads website it'll tell you more about it. Having had a read up on the QLD version recently, I'm led to believe Victoria is a tad more leniant with tyre size. I think it's somewhere in the order of 50mm tyre overall diameter increase before you need to go to an engineer for safety/lame change testing. That equates to around a 30" tyre on a Disco 1.

If you are running 32's already I'd suggest you might already have a lift and camel cut rear guards - I've got a mate with a D1 and 32" tyres, they chew his uncut rear guards on his 3" lifted suspension like crazy.

You won't need body lifts or anything crazy to keep it legit, a simple 2" lift and some cutting to rear panels will accommodate 32's. 35's are a different story though...

    Cheers

    Hi,
In Victoria (I assume your in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn) you have two options of doing a vehicle lift with out an engineers report (VASS).

Both options are listed in this document from Vicroads, in section 13.

    http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...orvehicles.pdf

As for what you can get engineered under VASS, talk to the VASS signatory you plan on using before you start anything.

Yes rear gaurds have beent cut by the rear quarter panels and front bumper has been cut down a little however unsure about any form of lift kit on it.
