    Syncroworks Land Rover Slickshift

Had a search but couldn't find anything.

Defender LT77 & R380 Slickshift | Online Gearbox Parts Shop

    Fits LT77 & R380 Defenders

Putting the fact that its trying to make a Defender more ergonomic and comfortable (HAH!) has anyone installed one of these into theirs?

I never had a problem shifting with my old tired gearbox but I am still eying it off as one of those silly luxuries that might make the overall driving experience a bit nicer (particularly for the wife).

I converted my defender to part time 4x4 and the gearbox became so smooth I didn't need to use a clutch changing up gears. It was incredible how much smoother the box was

Did you experience any negative affects from that conversion, such as handling on gravel etc?

Yes. you have too slow down in the rain and gravel but no different to driving any other rwd car. But having smooth gear change, no backlash,no hopping back and forth in slow traffic, 80% less noise and vibration outweigh taking it easy. I have just bought a td5 130 and will be part timing it soon as it is sticky with gear changes and vibrates like somthing that sits in a girls underwhere draw ;-). If you are ever in cairns you can take it for a test drive once it done. As everyone on this site will bag me for the part time conversion you need to drive it to believe it

What did you need to do to it. In regards to the part time mods.

You need to take out the middle part of the diff inside the transfer case and fit free wheeling hubs. http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?n...044191&alt=web

I've driven part time converted trucks. It had no effect on the gear changes. I'm guessing something else is/was wrong with your truck. There should not normally be all of those problems you mention and it should make zero difference in noise. Sounds like you have/had something wrong in the front axle.

One of the great things about these trucks is the incredible handling on gravel roads especially with well setup suspension. The part time conversion kills that attribute.

Maybe something was wrong but the fact that all 3 defenders I have owned having the same problem assured me that constant 4x4 puts alot of wear on the drive train and I could not afford to constantly rebuild diffs, bearing, transfer case, uni joints every 6 months. I have run lifts on my trucks that would have made the vibration worse than stock. Having driven on alot of gravel roads I don't see what the fuss is about with constant 4x4 as all my mates in hilux, patrol, cruiser can keep up with me no worries
