Lionel, I had a locksmith come out and cut a key for a motorbike, from the barrel. It cost under $50.00 in Cairns. Phone your favourite locksmith for a price.
Hello All,
One of my Land Rovers came without a key for the ignition or the door locks. Has anyone recently taken a Series 3 - no steering lock ignition switch to a locksmith and got them to cut a new key? If so how much did it cost for them to make a new key without there being an old key to copy off?
New petrol ignition switches are around $26.00 I am not sure if this price is a replacement part - after market, an OEM or a genuine switch.
Kind Regards
Lionel

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Were they keyed alike or were the doors different to the ignition ?
You normally need the key to turn the lock to a position where the barrel can be released (although I've drilled holes in locks without keys to release the barrel in the past).

Hi Lionel,
When I had the series 3 I just went to FWD with the lock and we tried all of the ones they had and found the key I needed.
You may just want to call them (or your preferred supplier) to make sure they have the keys in stock still.
Or it could be like my old 2a and you just needed any key that you could fit into the ignition

I have had eastern suburbs locksmiths in Brisbane cut several series keys from the lock and also cut locks to match keys.
Hello All,
Thanks for the replies. I had a Commodore station wagon rear door lock stuff over 10 years ago and I had the new lock reconfigured to match my other existing door locks. I just wondered how much such an exercise would cost from people's more recent experiences when it was a key cut when they were just given a lock.
I do not like things like old locks without keys floating around taking up space.
For some reason I also think of these things when it is after hours on a Saturday and the shop has closed for the weekend.
From what I can estimate from the replies it should be a reasonable cost to get a new key cut. I will just wait for Monday to come to confirm the local price from a couple of open for business locksmiths.
Kind Regards
Lionel
Hello All,
I just noticed my posting is in Australian Land Rover Owners > The Pinnacles > 90 110 130 Defender County >
I meant to post it in the General Chat section. I really do need those new contact lenses!Sorry for intruding. Exit stage left ...
Post Script ... It wasn't me after all - the post had been moved -
Kind Regards
Lionel
Hi Lionel,
That was the series 2a a small flat blade screw driver also worked.
The series 3 I had was ex military so no keys, ignition or doors. When I went down to FWD they told me there were only so many, so we tried all of the ones they had as spare parts and I got the keys that way.
