    suspension questions

Looking into suspension items was trying to hold off on doing suspension until a few other things got done like bullbar winch fuel tanks but pretty sure my shocks won't pass roadworthy.
Looking at the terrafira stuff so far looking like big bore expedition or pro sport with 2"lift but curious as to what would happen if fitting say a 3" or 5" shock to a 2"coil.

Have noticed you can get spaces for coils which would then effectively make them larger I guess but still not too sure.

Also what's with dislocation comes and why would they be needed surely there should be no reason for them move that much from proper location.

Al so any recommended set ups thing to do or not too.

2"-3" lift plenty of heavy rough off-road work and some expedition type trips currently tyres are nearly 32" but gonna be change for some mud tyres so may go slightly larger if can keep it legal otherwise 32" tyres it is.

    You don't mention which vehicle?

Dislocation cones are a gimmick. Spacers are also not a good idea.

As for shocks, personally I would only fit koni or bilstein.

    Hi

Lifting or more correctly running longer travel suspension is fraught with various issues unless you do it right. Caster correction, bump stops, mounts, modded radius arms. If you don't need 'em don't go there.

You can't just fit longer shocks 'cause well there longer and the mounts need to be spaced that much further apart. You can get around this in a compromised fashion by running extended bump stops, with this inhibits what you are trying to achieve.

Isuzu rover is right dislocation cones are no good, they let the back wobble around in a unrestrained fashion. Get longer springs like flexi coil or some other custom stuff.

What concerns me is your talking about stuffed shocks, so what condition are your bushes: pan hard, radius, tie ends, etc, king pin bearings, even steering box? Lifting (aka longer shocks) will make this 10x worse and everything must be 100%, before embarking on that track.

Just running a well set up suspension is all you may need, often your thinking I need a lift but its just your springs that have sagged and other worn stuff that ruining the ride.

Search! This question comes up at least once a fortnight lately. There is a ton of info in here.

Don't patch it up if it's an on-road car...... do it once, do it right and it will last you for many years.

Forget the spacers & cones. 2" is plenty enough lift and legal for 110 or D1.

Again assuming this is a 110 or D1, new springs, shocks and oem suspension bushes (if a full change of these is required), should be under $2500 fitted.

Go to an LR specialist, they'll be more efficient than the local 4X4 corner shop particularly with the bushes.

Take care not to take too much notice of fancy magazine ads and articles.

If your thinking of fitting a longer shock, standard travel is 8in in both D1 and def, the extended ones are around 12in, look at raising the shock mounts, gwyn Lewis and terrafirma who copied him sell these, this way you can have a 2in lift with the same or better amount of travel as a 4-6 in lifted rice burner
I've got a gwyn Lewis kit with ARB shocks designed for a 3-5in lifted patrol front, n73L from memory, but they changed the codes last year. They give 11.7 inches of travel. I'm thinking of firmer springs as my 2in dobbinsons are good but a bit soft in the back. Heavy loads, 5 kids plus crap.
