    300Tdi injector pump leak

    Hi All,

Trying to find a 'new' leak on my '97 Discovery 300Tdi injector pump.

A few months ago I fitted a new throttle shaft bush and seal kit from a UK supplier. This seems to have fixed the throttle shaft weep I had for some time.

However there now seems to be another weep/leak. The throttle shaft/top cover area seems to be dry but there's a small puddle of dirty diesel on the floor (well, sheet of cardboard to catch the drips) every time I park lately. There's usually a drop of clean diesel hanging off the bottom of the oil filter when ever I look up from below but I can't see exactly where it's coming from.

Any suggestions of where to look, dear gurus of matters LR? Is there another common place for leaks to develop?

    Thanks,
    Ian

Run your hand under the bottom of the lift pump.
Its common for them to leak.

    Trick for finding leaks,
mix up some metho and baby powder and paint it on the suspect area.
the metho dries leaving the powder behind, any leaks are easy to see.

Mine just started leaking from the distributor head seal. Only small drip while running. Been told its quite common. Not sure wether to reseal or rebuild as 350,000km old

Re-build would probably be a good idea. But be warned - getting the distributor head back onto the pump body is a real pain in the backside, as you've got to bring the two parts together while finaggling four springs into position....

Must be the time of year for injection pumps to leak.Mine is leaking from a 6mm allen screw fitting on the front of the pump,it drips only when motor is running.See my thread timed 12 minutes after this one.Our '95 300tdi developed a leak recently....which turned out to be one of the olives on the lift pump not tightening up on the outlet pipe, fixed with some thread tape!
Indie can you tell me what is behind, ie is it safe to remove, the 6mm allen screw just below the outside mounting flange.
