    more 727/zf questions

    Hey Guys

I mentioned in another thread about a dead 727 that i have in a rangie i picked up recently. Sorry for all the questions coming up.

This rangie has a 355 holden stroker and im wondering what to do with the auto. This is going to be mums (wife) daily so no 4b use (at this stage).

Ive had the opportunity to grab a ZF and all the trimmings to swap it over.

Im just wondering if effectively having 4 cogs and possible a nicer (never driven a zf) auto will make it a better car for mum to drive. Would the zf stand the torque from the stroker motor?

Do ZFs or 727s tow better?

Ive been told the 727 that is dead has had a lock up valve body and convertor from a Jenson Interceptor? I Havent pulled the pan off to confirm this yet. If it is indeed a lockup version i might put it in my weekend truck.

If the zf has a lt230 fitted does that mean i wont need to change tailshafts? what else would i require for the swap other than flex plate, convertor, shifter, cooler lines?

Or do i just fix the 727?

    Let me know your thoughts

    Cheers

Both the 727 and ZF use the LT230 transfer, the ratios are different (727 has 1.003 high , ZF has 1.22 high) .
The ZF wont like the stroked 355 unless beefed up, the 727 will take it all day long. I doubt the 727 is beyond repair so i'd look at a rebuild.

Thanks loanrangie, the zf strength was always a concern for me. As this is a budget build I'll just stick with the 727.

    Keep it simple😉

    Cheers
