110 rear shocks, what type???
I have fitted Old Man Emu springs all round on my Perentie, these springs give a 2" lift. The vehicle looks better but if I can’t find a shock that compliments the springs then I will replace withe the originals. The problem is that OME & most other brands can only supply shocks that are equivalent in length to the original shocks, not much use with a longer spring. Very noticeable of road with limited articulation compared with the original springs.
The original shocks have an open length of 570mm & closed 370mm approx. With shocks removed & the simple jack one corner test indicates that I need a rear shock with an open length of at least 630mm, the front springs don’t move enough to warrant longer shocks.
The only shock I have found is the rockcrawler with an open length of 658mm & closed length 380mm. The supplier of these shocks would not warrant them due to the length and the top EYE / bottom PIN mountings. Not sure why I presume they were not going to make them especially for me. Has any one had similar problems or can comment on the quality of the rockcrawler shock. At 340 bucks a pair I don’t want to take a punt.
Thanks Rob

Try the KONI factory in Vermont South, they should be able to get a shock that suits your needs, even if they have to make one by changing the pin/eyes around. They've got 10 way adjustment and a supposedly good for 400,000km, which should off set their higher initial cost. Otherwise from memory the Ironman range had longer travel than their equivalent competitiors (theyre in Clayton).

Rob,
I have OME on mine. I ended up getting the springs resized down. The shocks were just too short.
BTW I have finally got around to scanning some project photos and put them on the album. I havn't managed to label the album yet.

why not space the shock down with a spacer the same thickness as
the lift?
do you have more travel in suspension now than before mod?
if travel is the same it should work with just a spacer.
just a thought....maybe not a good one as i do have a headache and it hurts when i think.

I have rancho rs9000's and they work well. Just tell them what length you need when you order.
I had ironman and snapped the shock in half as it was two short.

NO don't just lower the shock mount, as the axle articulates and compresses the up-side the shock WILL become the bumpstop and they won't last long. yes you need a longer open shock with the same closed lenght. i have been speaking with KONI, very helpfull and just give them the messurements open/closed and they will make one. yes it will be expensive, BUT, it will work, have the correct valving and last. get some totota 80 series long travel in konis for the front and some sloted bushes and you'll be away.
cheers, Serg

Is it just me or dose no one have axle limiting straps/wire rope/ fitted to their landies? that straps purpose in life is to prevent your axle articulating to far and "snapping " your shocks. 8O
There is probably a reason why knowone makes shocks that long with a warrenty, because you would only need the slightst malfunction or misshap to snap one. If you need over half a meter in articulation to get some where, maby you should be asking your self "do I really need to go there?" I know I know I sound like your mother But.....
Food for thought
Cheers Larns
