Cant see any problem apart from welding gal can test your skills, i dont know what you mean by proper pipe but bars are generally made from common garden variety mild steel.
Currently have free access to abit of galvanised steel pipe wondering whats peoples thoughts on using it for barwork.
Is it ok to use or should I just wait until I can afford some proper steel pipe.
Only thing is I will have to find someone to weld it up for me as my welding skills really aint that great.

I had a bullbar made for my Hillman in Carnarvon in 1971. The bloke there made it out of steam pipe.

It is pretty nasty to weldFumes are toxic.
paint don't like to stick to it either, but at least when it falls off it wont rust !
I made the rock sliders on my IIA from galvanised seamless pipe. Apart from the welding issues, it is superior to the steel most use for barwork.
General seamed gal pipe will just be mild steel.
No reason you can't use it, but benefits are minimal. The welded joints always rust first due to change in metallurgy about the haz zone, is enough to initiate a corrosion cell.
So you'll have to paint it and it will need a good etch primer to stay put for any length of time. I understand these are hard to find, ring a international or dulux, etc
With these things in mind and the ohs issues with welding I wouldn't bother myself.

All good if you can fab it then hot dip it. But. If using gal tube you need to use a flapper disk on a grinder and remove all the gal from the areas to be welded. The fumes are bad and the weld will be no better!. After welding, clean it up and treat with Cold Gal paint then top coat. But Gal tube does not paint very good at all.

Do you mean gal. steel pipe or gal wrought iron pipe? GWI is what is used for plumbing and is soft. Not at all suitable.
