Could be worse ya might have to take it to your local Ford dealer.![]()
I would seriously recomend you don't, the pain in the arse drive would be better  trust me. 8)
My local dealer has had his dealership withdrawn by LR and advises me that he is one of many across the country. This now means a 2hr drive to get a service. Although not bad, just a pain in the arse. has anyone else heard of the this occuring elsewhere, and why would LR be withdrawing dealerships?

I actually think that if all Ford Dealers outside the Metro area had a LR Parts counter and some training on LR products this would be a goo thing.
As you can see LRA themselves are pulling out of the Country dealers, how are they ever going to compete with the likes of Tojo / ****an dealers?

Spot on LRH, I think if ford are going to take over ownership of land rover, they should take on the responsibility of selling and servicing them. Surely it wouldnt be a problem to send away one mechanic from each dealership and do a course on land rovers etc. This would open up more service centres for LR and allow LR to get the word out to more places. 2 long established Landrover dealers in the Hunter Valley will be losing the Landrover logo the Singleton dealer very soon and the Dungog dealer (who has been selling and servicing L/r's for a bloody long time) will go in approx 12 months leaving only a dealer in Newcastle (a Johnny come lately type) no word on whether local dealer who sells Ford will be servicing any L/r's, they won't be servicing anything of mine thats for bloody sure!!!!!!!!!!
The future cars are all going to share Ford components anyway - look at the new Disco 3 - motors both come from Jags.Originally posted by Ace

Your telling me that the LR and Jag showrooms in Artarmon (on opposite corners of the Pacific Highway) are not going to share parts / info?
This only has to be a good thing, then once they have the current model range sorted then do as the UK have recently started "Land Rover Classic Parts" to keep the older RR and Discos alive.

I agree with you also Dinty - pity to loose such heritage and knowledge. I know the Dungog one also worked with other "satellite" smaller retailers - where does it leave them also?Originally posted by Dinty

But people like you and I dont go to stealers anyway - unless we REALLY have to!!! But it would be handy if the local Ford dealership did hold some parts while out in the Country areas.

go to these dealerships and get contact details of the individual
mechanics. some of them will already be doing jobs on the side
for extra cash anyway.
as for parts, it will now be up to them to chase up and organise parts
for the jobs they do, and they should know a few suppliers already.
(my 11 cents worth.)
It looks very likely that LRA will pull the plug in 2007 and that the new range of vehicles will be through Ford Dealers or Jag (I doubt that but we may only see the Disco and New Range Rover) the rest, the older, I.E. over 3-5 years will be cut adrift as in the 80's and the Series Vehicles (in the Companys eyes VANISH) Ford's bible is, SALES SALES SALES that is one thing old HENRY taught well, the might have had to add more colours that Black, but S A L E S is company law.
Buyers have enabled it to happen mate. A recent motoring survey I heard on the radio on the way to work showed average of three years life for a new vehicle before being traded up. So what you've got is people wanting a new car for whatever reason, warranty (Daewoo/Hyundai syndrome), status or for other reasons like high k's. So there's that driving the market then theres the cost of spares.Originally posted by rocket

Ford's just doing the "increase profit by reducing cost", why have service centres all over the place ticking over when they could have one at warp speed making four times as much with less outlay? It's an old ploy and most big companies do it at some stage, Telstra did it recently you might remember. We have no option but to go along.
Series vehicles never will "vanish", as manufacturers continue to focus on soft roaders they rely on us to be there be the unoffical recovery vehicles.
