Stopping the flow of brake fluid - any tips??

    Hi all
My RH rear brake caliper is leaking so I have ordered a kit and will rebuild it. But is there a trick to stopping the flow of brake fluid when undo the line from the rear caliper? I have stainless braided flexible hoses all round so I don't want to go crimping this.

    Thanks

I have used two small pieces of wood with rounded edges and used these to block off fluid by clamping lightly with a g clamp. Jim

Yes don't clamp your braided lines. Use an oversize piece of hose big enough to go over the screw fitting and a catch can or jar to stop the mess. You are going to have to bleed both back lines anyway and its good to push all the old fluid out, so no point trying to keep it in.

ok cool....was just looking for a way to cap the end of the line whilst the caliper is on the bench.

It must be the age of the truck...I just did the Front LH caliper about a month ago

    Thanks

If one caliper starts leaking then the rest will surely follow, change all the seals at the one time or you are asking for trouble, like this, regards Frank

cling wrap under the filler cap, it will leak some but then cause a vacuum in the reservoir tank and stop.

If you don't want to drive it - then the plastic film under the cap.

Otherwise - I have made a compression seal out of alfoil to stop fluid leaking out of a fractured line (i.e. undo union, fit small pellet of alfoil in fitting - screw back up tight.

This is possible on the rear (rear brakes don't do much),, but not a great idea on the front.

    crikey.....won't be driving it!!!!

Will try the cling wrap under the filler cap as well

It is just to stop the flow while I remove the caliper, strip, clean and rebuild it then mount back onto the car.

    THanks
