LT95 jumping out of High Range in reverse

    Hello everybody
Have just completed a rebuild of the LT 95 gearbox & transfer case all new bearings thrust races and shims what ever was required has been running well for a couple of months I never noticed any issues with reverse only in the last week when towing my camper trailer that it wanted to jump out of high range in reverse doesn't do it in low range or traveling forward ( not yet) Now it is starting to do it under its on weight when reversing up a slight incline. have been back into the box to check clearance and adjustment of selector forks and it seems to be ok. Can any one shed some light on this issue.
    Thank you .Peter

It will be on the transfer intermediate shaft. Some things it could be (presuming it's a normal roller bearing model and not a TRB setup). Either the shims need adjusting, the engaging dogs on hi range are worn, the engaging dogs on the input gear(selector gear) are worn or selectors are out of adjustment. You mention you have checked the selector adjustment. How did you check it? The usual culprit is endfloat on the intermediate shaft from out of adjustment thrusts.

    Hi Bearman
    Thanks for the reply
what I checked on the selectors was the clearance between the selector and the backend ( the end that faces the handbrake drum) of the input gear left a clearance of 8thou could be possibly any one of those sounds like I need to drop the lot and start again. was hoping for an easy solution , But hey its a Landrover thanks for the response let you know what happens
    Cheers Peter

8 thou sound allright for the clearance for the rear fork(in neutral). Easiest way to find out where the problem is is to drop the oil and the sump plate and see if there is any movement in the intermediate shaft gears. If they feel ok then select low range and check the hi range gear engaging dogs for wear.

Probably not the problem, but check that there is clearance between the tunnel cover flange and the high/low lever, when it is in high range.
I had that problem after a box change and found the transfer would drop out of high when reversing out of my driveway about 60% of the time. Finally tracked it to the lever rubbing against the cover flange through improper adjustment. My bad.

    Cheers,
    Daryl.

Thanks for the reply everyone I have found the problem as yet I don't know what caused the problem but the high range gear is badly chewed out in the centre, bearing ok but have about 1.5mm movement ether way on the shaft.
and yes I will look at the travel on the shaft also because that was one of my thoughts maybe gasket not thick enough and that would allow the shaft to come on contact with the front output housing.

thanks everyone will keep you informed
    Peter
