Pull the exhaust off as you cannot, or should I say I could not get the sump fully off between the diff and the exhaust.
I had to feed the gasket from side to side using string, and guess what it now leaks because I didn't/couldn't get sealant in there.
Next Time I pull the bloody sump off, I will have the Permatex handy, and as advised by an earlier post, file down the spacer at each corner that stops the bloody sump from sealing.

Hi Pedro,
I daresay that you are quite right.
However, I only joined Aulro a week or two ago, and bought my first ever Land Rover (TD5 Disco 2) in January, specifically to take on a trip to the Gibb River Road in June. I spent almost 5 months and $5500 making preparations for the trip, and covered everything that a specialist Land Rover workshop in WA mentioned to me when they inspected the car.
The first post (mine) in this thread tells what happened after I had set off.
Until Graeme & Strangy replied to that post of mine, I had never heard that the oil-pump bolt was a known issue with the TD5 engine. Now, I well and truly know!
So I am sorry if it's a bit tedious and "Ho-hum" for you, but I have GREATLY appreciated the responses that I have received, especially from Graeme and Strangy. I was very keen to find out and understand what might have caused the big-end bearing failure that I experienced, in spite of the effort I had made to ensure that the vehicle was in a reliable condition.
I think Strangy and Graeme have probably hit the nail on the head, and I'll be asking the workshop if they still have the old oil pump and sprocket so that I can have a look at them (a complete replacement oil pump was put into my new engine).
Hope that seems fair enough to you.

From what I see here the WORKSHOP should have known about the oil BOLT.

It is a shame that it has cost you so much the hard way.

My landy has cost me more than I expected.

Do I still want to keep it and use it??? YEP!

The previous owner told me that it has been done one my car but I have no receipts of it.

Yeah I take a bit of pride in my lawn. I recon I have the best lawn in the street.

I need to get some room temperature vulcanization silicone any way and it's a public holiday up here. I could get some permatex from SCA but I like Loctite.

I've had the below for about 3 months now.

Mine has cost 3 times what I expected. I thought yeah they have there problems but that's why they are cheap. Most of what I have spent has been trying to make it reliable. The rest has been replacing stuff that is just old, worn or both.

I don't know why but they grow on you. They are still an awesome 4x4. Nothing comes close to being as flexible. Sure some are better on road but they are rubbish off. Sure some are better off road but they are rubbish on road.

I'll put the empty packaging for the bolt in the glove box.
