Question Disco 3 Alloy wheels wear

Hi to all in Australia, I am in Scotland but interested in all Land Rovers as I work with them every day.
We have a V8 Disco 3 with 18 inch alloys. It has been in the Land Rover dealer to have the low pressure tyre sensor valves changed under warranty as they fitted them only a year ago.
They have now said that the alloys are worn excessively at the rim and have to be changed. The reason given was that the dirt of the tracks it runs on has worked its way between the tyre and rim and worn away the alloys.
As Australia has more dirt roads than over here, has anyone had the same problem over there.
    Hope someone can help.

I have certainly heard of dirt getting into the bead but never heard of the rim wearing because of this.

I would be getting a second opinion .

    Disco 3 wheels

Thanks Garry, I will speak to the workshop manager tomorrow.
I am bit suspicious about the wheels being worn!

May be running with flat tyres or low pressure on a coarse surface , like on one of those shale beaches. Have to be something excessive. Never heard of that before.
