    LT95 LT85 gearbox questions.

    Hi all.

I am looking for a bit of info from all the Landy gurus out there.

I am considering swapping the the engine and box out of my Isuzu Stage1 into a 110.
Bit of a shame because the old girl is very straight and original but the leaf spring ride is tougher than I am.

The donor vehicle / chassis I would use would be a V8 110 County.
Now if I can find a good 4speed ( LT95 ) vehicle I'd swap in my existing gearbox Tcase as they are in good condition and the ratios are right.
    No problem there.

    However another idea would be to get a later 5speed ( LT85 / LT230 ) Santana setup.
    Here are the questions.

    1. The bellhousing is different for the Isuzu.
Does the LT95 bellhousing fit the LT85?

    2. Is the input shaft compatible?

    3. I know with the Isuzu 4th gear is 1:1 top with a 1.123 Transfer gear.
I believe the V8 LT85 setup top is 0.7951 with 1.410 Transfer gear giving 1.121.
    Is that correct?
If so the gearing is is about the same in top for both setups, which means I gain nothing from the 5th gear.

    4. Does the factory 5speed Isuzu 110 have a different transfer ratio as in the case of the 4 speed?

    5. Last one.
How tough is the LT85 and did they have the trouble of flogged out shafts going into the LT230?

    Phew quite a list.
    Any info would be appreciated.

    Cheers
    Ken

I can help with a couple of your questions.

    1. The bellhousings are different between lt95 and lt85

    2. One Tens with 3.9d and lt95 had 0.996 high ratios

    3. The diesel had diffetrent ratios than the v8 as it had lt77 box

    4. The lt95 is a much better box than the lt85 and you dont have problems with the lt230 transfer case as it doesn't have one.

Hi mate, I have a 5 speed box and santana set up in my 86 county. It is a great match but at 100K you are doing 2900 revs. If it is not on gas you will be paying heaps for fuel. Deano

I won't dwell on things already said as they were pretty much on the mark. The 85 has a fine spline input so it requires a different clutch plate.

Unless you get the D90 230 t/case which has a lower ratio in high you dont get any benifit of having the 5th gear. infact its a drawback because the 5th is a weak point for the Isuzu.

The LT-85 will last about 100 000km behind the Isuzu IF you look after it. No five speed will last particuly long behind the Isuzu. It's just to powerful a motor to be only four cylinders.

If you do get a hold of a D90 t/case and get a LT-85 modded to handle the Isuzu, the only dramas you might have with the 230 will be flogging out the g/box output shaft. which is easly fixed by milling a few holes in the t/case input gear (which from memory was covered in a previous thread here with some good pic's).

If looked after the santana box will serve you well, but I must say it's all for nothing if you dont get the right t/case high range gear to compliment it.

    Cheers Larns

The LT-95 has an integral transfer case, I don't think you can split it?

    Thanks guys.

My original posting was all a bit all over the place.

I was looking at two variables for swaping my Isuzu onto 110 chassis using a V8 110County as a source.

Use my original drivetrain ie the Isuzu with the LT95 gearbox/Tcase which is geared OK.
    or
If I find an good 5speed county with LT85/LT230 to use that setup with the Isuzu, in order to pick up a taller 5th gear option..
I was a bit unsure about that setup as to what gearing is avaliable and reliability.

In light of what I've read here, and other info I've picked up, I think I'd be inclined to stay with my original LT95 setup.
My gear is all in good condition, reliability nots a problem and I can live with the final drive.

    Thanks again.

how does the county LT95 mated to the V8 differ from the one mated to the isuzu- besides the bellhousing of course. I've just bought one from a V8.

Just the bellhousing and the high range ratio.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

In the county V8 and Stage 1 V8 it is 1.336, Isuzu is 0.996. In the RR V8 there are 5 ratios 1.123,1.174,1.113 1.00 and 0.996.
