    Darn Caliper Pistons D2

I have a rogue piston in my D2 front caliper!
I was trying to retract them using a g clamp to refit new pads. The first one didn't move so I moved onto the second. It moved easily after a bit of pressure, but that initial pressure caused the first piston to pop nearly all the way out.
Now I can't get it any further out nor any further in with the clamp.
I am unsure whether it has moved forward of the seal but I don't suspect so as it would be able to be removed wouldn't it?

The rubber boots are in reasonable nick and the piston seems to be good as well, not scored or scuffed so I hoping to salvage the piston and seals.

Any ways, do I have at it with the 60t press? I have removed the caliper from the car and thought bugger it - it just has to go back in.

To press or not to press?

The piston has probably tilted a bit and is sticking at the edge of the seal groove. Tap it inwards with a punch and hammer working gently around the cup until it moves.

If you have it off I would get a genuine seal kit and replace the seals. I had a dud batch of seals from Britpart. DONT USE BRITPART. There was a 1.5mm difference in the thickness of the seals if the boot is in reasonable condition it may have been rebuilt with uneven seals.

Well, In the end it wasn't hard, but boy it made me work for it!

Secured the caliper in a vice and started to tease the piston in.
For the first 10 minutes nothing........no amount of angle or pressure would budge it and seat it home.

I removed the piston and lubricated the chamber, seal and piston...still no luck.

Then as if by magic, when I was about to get cranky, it just popped. No aides, force or persuading. It just seated and slide down.

Worried about the seal, I pressurised the caliper, both with brake fluid and air and no leaks so on the car it went.

Ten minutes later, bleed done, I am mobile again.

    Cheers
