this can be a problem.
I have spoken to a couple race teams in the UK - they just recommend solid discs but with good quality Kevlar pads for REAL dirt work.

Is the ingress of mud into the slots a problem?

Kevlar pad would be very expensive, and don't they also have to be very hot to work efficently? If so not really very practical for evey day use, but I could see the use fro them in racing
Cheers Chriso73
I have used some pads that were a Kevlar mix in my solid disc Disco.
Worked a treat - hardly any break fade.
I think even Bendix in AU have some Kevlar mixed pads available :?:

guys there is another option .... a mate of mine was telling me that the cross drilled rotors (may) in some applications have problems with stress fracturing between the drillings, he was telling me at the time that V8 supercars ahd gone away from them for this reason (btw i know that im gonna get all these - ive had them and it didnt happen to me)
so anyway he was telling me about these "slotted rotors they dont have the cross drilling just the slots to let the gas out, and they arent so prone to cracking.... but beware the trade off is wearing your pads out quicker as the slot ( on either cross drilled or not) can act as a scraper and take pad off quick...
so there ya have it - oh and BTW I was planning to get the solid slotted rotors , but i might get the spacers and use slotted vented
Mick
I've got DBA slotted unvented rotors on my RR and they seem to work well. Haven't driven it much so i cant comment on pad life though.
I now run:
solids on the rear.
slotted vented on front.
Green stuff pads (not cheap)
S/Steel braid brake lines on front (200mm longer than Std.)
have replaced the RR brake booster with a modified one ( sim to rangie spares used to do)
Stops brilliantly.
regards
Michael.
I have always had trouble with brake fade and next time will fit vented rotors to the front. I recently (6 months ago) fitted DBA slotted rotors all around and bendix 4wd pads. Have also used green Stuff pads. The brakes are better but still fade too much as far as I am concerned. For those in Melbourne on the drive down Mt Dandenong to Ferntree Gully by the time I have to stop at the lights at Burwood highway there is lots of fade and smoke. The fluid is regularly changed. Any change in the rotors will not make an improvement if you increase tyre size though (as opposed to brake fade due to heat) Better pads or a change in the booster should make an improvement though.
