    Series landy fuel comsumption

    Somebody asked me the other day about series landy fuel comsumption. He was looking at buying a series landy (naturally I have him the AULRO URL and he should be along some time), but I had no idea what a "Standard" series landy gave in the way of fuel economy (or lack there of).

    I was getting 22L/100 km, but i've improved it to around the 17 or 18L with a new dizzy and coil on my holden motor.

    Also interested in figures for holden engines as well (and engine type with figures).

    My mutant tends to return all sorts of values for fuel consumption but then I've changed a fair bit from a standard 186 as you know.

    Poking around town tends to return somewhere around 15~20L/100km but that's alot of short shifting and steady driving.

    Towing the car trailer tends to make it suffer pulling it back to 40L/100Km @ 80km/hr but the box trailer only makes a difference when loaded with something heavy like gravel.

    Before I put the OD in @ 90km/hr it would consume 35L/100km

    With the OD engaged @90km/hr it's about 15~18L/100km and @110~120km/hr steady 20L/100km

    So if I was to return it to "standard" by clogging up the exhaust with the single outlet manifold and the stromberg carbie feeding I'd probably get a consumption figures around yours Pheonix.


    The brother inlaws series 2 with a fresh 2.25 motor, pea rifle sized exhaust, Zenith Carby and Fairey OD does worse than mine with fuel consumption. Somewhere in the range of 25~30L/100Km @ 80km/hr and worse when it gets to 100km/hr.

    SIII 109 HT with 179 red Holden: 22-25l/100km
    SIII 109 STW with 2.25l five-bearing LR engine 16-17l/100km

    Hope this helps...

    my '76 S3 still has the original 2.25l with 146000 km on the clock. Has a loose Fairley O/D - cruises at 80-90km/h - the wind drag seems to cut in outside 85km/h that making the engine work a lot harder for any smaller gain

    Gets 13l /100km on LRP with Morleys upper cyl added.

    ... i do though drive basically highway cycle - 46km up the gateway then 46km back home & I don't expect acceleration its not meant to do

    I really want aircon in my office [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif[/img]

    I just managed to get a better carburettor for my landy with a better mainjet, looks like I might squeeze a little more economy out of the old girl yet [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

    Cooler than here. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

    Just be careful to not go too lean to where you burn the crowns out of the pistons. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif[/img]

    I wasn't planning on chasing economy to the point of risking that, it isn't worth it. You still have to have some GRUNT in the engine :wink:
