Swivel pin pre-load,your bearings are knackered and need replacing or the panhard bush is like wise.Your disco doesn't have torsion bars. Pat
Alright, so last month i replaced the head in my 300tdi discovery, because it was cracked. However once i was able to get back on the road i was struck with a steering wobble. The wobble comes in from anywhere between 60kms to 100km, however usually around the 80-85km mark. It is a very violent wobble and really shakes the steering wheel.
The following has been replaced, sway bar bushes, rear A frame ball joint, radius arm bushes, i have tried different wheels and tyres and nothing has changed.
If any has had this problem it would be great help, cheers

Sorry i meant radius arm bushes not torsion bars, and yes panhard bush have been replaced as well as swivel pin pre-load and bearings all have been checked, no signs of any damage
Steering Box pre-load, Pitman arm loose, Pitman Arm ball joint loose, front wheel bearings loose.... there are a number of things that can cause it but if it is that bad you should be able to find it fairly easy, jack up and support the front on Jack Stands, grab hold of a wheel and move it around, most times you wheel feel it and then can find it
I had two different wobbles combined, but didn't realise it at the time.
The niggling constant vibration wobble was swivel preload. Bearings can seem fine, but they may be brinelled - you may feel the bearing sitting in a slight groove when you attempt to turn the bearing in its race.
The violent shake, generally when hitting uneven road, was caused by deteriorated bushes on the front drivers side shock, I think rotted by oil coming from the vacuum pump.
Push your fender vigorously up and down to see any gap between the shock tower and rubber.
Your better of never playing with the steering box pre-load unless you have the right equipment to do it,a touch too much will strip the chrome off the worm or crush the bearings and it will become U/S,worse still it will lock the box up while your driving, either is not good. Pat
Thanks fellas, i removed the steering damper to find out it had no resistance for about 4 inches, i replaced it with another of my other discovery and there was also abit of play in the steering box, once doing both of these it has run great and it hasn't happened so far, cheers
